Alford Remembers 1914 - 1918 • Alford Manor House

Starting on 1st May 2014 and continuing until the end of 2018, a series of exhibitions and events are being held both in the Manor House and Hackett Barn Museum to reflect on how the community of Alford and the surrounding area was changed during the First World War. The displays will be updated annually to show how these changes came about and how they were influenced by the international events of the time.

Alford & District Civic Trust in partnership with St Wilfrid’s Church, Alford & District Royal British Legion, and the Town Council is leading the programme of events listed on this website. All schools, organisations and businesses within the town and local villages, are invited to participate and a request has gone out for WW1 memorabilia, anecdotes, artefacts and anything of interest for display, together with any other items which reflect on how Alford may have been in the period 1914-1918.

We are also in partnership with the Imperial War Museum and with their global news agency “Culture 24” linked to the BBC, this gives us access to a wide range of resources and support as well as publicity.

Highly Commended in the Hudson's Heritage Awards

Alford Manor House were Highly Commended in the Hudson's Heritage Awards for "Alford Remembers WW1 1914-1918" - WW1 Centenary project.

Dan Snow presented the award at Goldsmith's Hall London on 3rd March at a special reception and lunch.
