The house is a very rare example of a composite structure, featuring a wooden frame with reed and plaster (visible from within the house), encased in brick. The ground floor and first floor rooms feature design interventions from Georgian through to Victorian times, whilst the attic floor is virtually untouched since 1611.
Many of the rooms contain historical items and images along with information boards and a written tour guide is available to take around with you. Each year, some rooms are given over to one or more temporary exhibitions, so there is always something new to see. And don’t forget the gardens, which change week by week with the seasons.
Alford Manor House is open to the public throughout Spring, Summer and Autumn along with the gardens and tea rooms. Behind the Manor House, The Museum of Rural Life houses many of the towns historic artefacts and can also be viewed separately for a small fee.
