This year's exhibition at Alford Manor House (free to all living in LN13 postcode) is Three Strong Women.

Jesse Stephenson – a suffragette
I have been fascinated by suffragette Jessie Stephenson since first reading her memoir in the Museum of London. Born into a Lincolnshire farming family, she pursued a life at odds with her parents' traditional view of a woman's role, choosing an independent life and suffering imprisonment for her belief in women's equality.
Dorothy Higgins – a local character of substance
Some may still remember Dorothy, world one nurse and benefactor to Alford, including gifting the Manor House to the Civic Trust for the community.
Anne Hutchinson – a puritan who emigrated
Anne emigrated with her family to America in 1635 when crossing the Atlantic was far from easy. She became one of ten American colonial leaders and was killed by Indians.
